Peter Ruby

Peter acts as an arbitrator and mediator primarily in the technology and energy sectors, in addition to his busy counsel practice. In the technology space, Peter has a balanced practice, representing multinational and entrepreneurial vendors of technology and services, along with many end-users of information technology. With respect to energy, Peter represents developers and operators of renewable power projects, electricity utilities, resource companies and provincial government bodies. More generally, Peter deals with a wide variety of commercial and corporate business disputes. He is a member arbitrator/mediator of Arbitration Place, on the Canadian roster of the AAA’s International Center for Dispute Resolution, and is the Chair of the North America committee of the Silicon Valley Arbitration & Mediation Center.
Peter is a partner in Goodmans LLP’s Dispute Resolution Group. As counsel, he has a national and international practice focused on business, technology and energy dispute resolution, including software, hardware, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, telecommunications, film, television, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, e-commerce and internet, shareholder and financing litigation, arbitration and mediation. Peter has acted as counsel for the Canadian Electricity Association, and represented electricity utilities across Canada, as well as energy developers. He has appeared at all levels of the courts of Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as at many arbitration proceedings. Peter as also appeared at the Ontario Energy Board with respect to generation, distribution, transmission, mergers and acquisitions, real estate and development issues, and before other provincial energy regulators.
